Wix or a managed mortgage website: where the easy start runs out
Wix is a genuinely good way to get a first site online quickly and cheaply, and for a new originator with three pages that is the correct decision. The ceiling arrives later, and it arrives in a specific place: when your site needs a page for every program, a profile for every originator with identifiers that must match everywhere, a city page that actually competes locally, and someone to keep all of it current while you originate loans. That is not a criticism of the tool. It is a different job.
The short answer
Right for a new originator with a small site and a tight month; a managed plan is right once the site needs program pages, originator profiles and a city that ranks.
- Plans$137 a month
- Build fee$797, after launch

What Wix is, described fairly
Wix is a hosted website platform: the vendor runs the hosting, the editor and the updates, and you build in the browser with templates and a drag-and-drop canvas. The appeal is that everything is in one place and nothing technical is ever your problem. Any hosted platform makes the same trade, and it is a fair one: less control and less portability in exchange for far less work. For a small site that will not change much, that trade is usually worth taking.
Side by side, on the things a mortgage site is judged on
12 rows. Where we do not know something about the other option, we describe the category rather than inventing a detail.
| What is being compared | Wix | MortgageWebStudio |
|---|---|---|
| Time to your first page | An afternoon, with no technical knowledge required. | Days, from one onboarding call, with a review link before it is public. |
| Who builds it | You, on a canvas. | A studio that builds mortgage sites and nothing else. |
| Design ceiling | High for a brochure site, lower once the structure gets complicated. | One type scale and one accent applied by hand, with the structure a mortgage business actually needs. |
| Page speed on a phone | Varies with the template and the apps added to it. | Static, hand-coded pages held to the guaranteed floor and re-measured after every weekly update. |
| Structure for local search | You build the pages. Deciding which ones should exist is still your job. | A page per program, per branch city and per originator, each with one target phrase. |
| Structured data | Some is emitted, and you can add more with effort. | Generated from the visible content on every page and validated. |
| Identifiers and disclosures | Placed by hand, then kept matching by hand as pages multiply. | One definition, rendered identically everywhere, changed once. |
| Articles | A blog is included. Writing it is your job. | Researched, cited articles every week, included. |
| Payment estimator | Usually a third-party app or an embed, often on someone else's domain. | Built into your pages, labeled as an estimate, every run captured as a lead in your CRM. |
| Accessibility and policy pages | Templates exist and tools help. Making them true of your site is on you. | Written for your actual forms and tools, with consent that genuinely gates scripts. |
| Cost model | A subscription, plus apps, plus your time. | One monthly fee covering the site, hosting, domain, revisions and articles, plus a build fee after launch. |
| Portability | A hosted platform. Check your plan's terms before assuming the site can move. | Domain in your name, content exported on request. |
When Wix is the right choice and we are not
Stay where you are when the site is small, the budget is tight and you enjoy doing it yourself.
- You are newly licensed, the site is three pages, and cash matters more than anything else this quarter.
- You actually like editing your own site and will keep it current.
- Your business comes almost entirely from people who already have your number.
- You need something online this week and nothing about it is permanent.
- Your lender provides most of your compliance surface already and your site carries very little of it.
When the ceiling is costing you deals
Move when the site has become a structure rather than a page, or when it stopped being updated.
- You need a page per program and a profile per originator, kept accurate, without doing it yourself.
- Your branch should be ranking in its city and is not, because the site has one page about everything.
- The identifier or licensed-state line is wrong somewhere and nobody is sure where.
- You have not touched the site in eleven months and you know it shows.
- The estimator on your site sends your most interested visitors to a third party.
What clients say about the work
“If you only look at the design you miss the best bit, which is the inquiry form. It collects purchase or refinance goal, property state and callback time up front, so the back-and-forth we used to do by reply has largely gone. It has quietly removed the slowest step in our intake.”
What they got: Inquiry form and response workflow for home loan consultations
“Most of our visitors are on phones, so that is where I reviewed the new home loan consultations pages. Everything a visitor needs is up top, and the inquiry button stands out properly. It is far more practical than the old page when we share it with a caller.”
What they got: Mobile navigation and page layout for home loan consultations
“Before this, sending our home loan consultations form felt like posting a letter into the dark. Submitters now see exactly what we will do with their request and when to expect us. It is a small corner of the site that makes the whole process feel finished.”
What they got: Submission acknowledgment and follow-up for home loan consultations
Keeping what is worth keeping
If you have photographs, testimonials, articles or a local page that has earned traffic, all of it comes across. A first site on a hosted platform is not wasted work. It is usually where a business learns what its visitors actually ask, and those questions become the program pages and the article schedule on the new site.
Moving off a hosted platform cleanly
The two things that go wrong in this move are lost URLs and a lost domain. Both are avoidable.
We list every page, title and description on the current site before touching anything.
Content worth keeping is rewritten into the new structure, with program pages split out of the single services page.
Every old URL is mapped to its replacement with one permanent redirect.
We check who controls the domain registration first. If it sits inside the platform, we walk you through moving or pointing it before launch day, not on it.
The new site is reviewed by you and your compliance team on a private link, then the domain is pointed.
Questions about Wix
Can I keep my domain if I move?
Yes, and it is the first thing to check rather than the last. If the domain was registered through the platform, it can usually be transferred or pointed, but the process differs by provider and some have a waiting period. We check the registration before the build starts so launch day is not the day anyone discovers a lock.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
Not if the migration is done properly. Every existing URL is mapped to its closest equivalent with a permanent redirect, titles that already rank are kept, and we watch index coverage for the weeks after launch. What usually damages rankings in a move is nobody mapping the old URLs at all.
Wix is much cheaper. Why would I pay more?
Because the subscription is not the whole cost. Add up the hours you or someone else spends editing pages, the apps you pay for separately, the articles nobody writes, and the deals that go to a competitor whose branch page ranks in your city. If that total is smaller than a managed plan, stay on Wix. We will tell you honestly on the call if we think it is.
Can you make my Wix site faster instead?
We do not work inside other platforms. Page speed on a hosted builder is largely a function of the template and the apps, so the realistic advice is to remove apps you do not need and simplify the heaviest pages. That advice is free and you do not need us to do it.
What happens to my blog posts?
The ones worth keeping move, rebuilt as real pages with their own structured data and byline, with redirects from the old URLs. Thin or outdated posts we will flag, and you decide whether to keep, rewrite or retire them.
Do I get a login to edit pages myself?
No, and that is deliberate. You send a revision and we make it inside the stated turnaround, with compliance wording prioritized. If editing your own pages is the thing you value most, a builder is genuinely the better fit for you.
My site has a calculator app. Does that come across?
It is replaced. We build the estimator into your own pages so the visitor stays on your domain and the run is captured as a lead in your CRM with the program attached, instead of the app vendor receiving it. The wording and disclosures are yours to approve.
How long will I be without a website during the move?
Not at all. The current site stays live while the new one is built and reviewed on a private link. The domain is pointed only once you have approved it, which is a change measured in minutes.
